Sell a solution, not a product OR Sell a Product along with Solution ?

Sell a solution, not a product OR Sell a Product along with Solution ?

Everyone knows “sell a solution, not a product” but this concept is not applied in recruiting/ Hiring.

You need to market yourself to the recruiter since, during the job search/job hunt, “You are the product“. How will you get yourself into the top 50 shortlisted contenders?
You are a product, and your resume is the product description. Without a description, HR professionals and recruiters won’t be able to comprehend your traits and talents.

As I always say – “Your first impression is your resume

In Recruitment, you have to sell a product first, along with a solution.
Ratio should be
65% – Product
35% – Solution

Most individuals become confused at this point because they either start praising the employer firm (where they are going for an interview) or they start talking about their accomplishments.

Let’s take an example
There is always one prominent question – “Why should I hire you?

I am a hardworking person, I think I am a good match for this role. I always wanted to work in Fortune 500 companies like yours. It’s one of my dream companies. I am ready for doing anything which will be assigned to me.”

It should look like this:

Working as a Software Tester with reputed organizations like TCS and HCL Technologies has given me first-hand experience working in the field of testing. In my past career, I bagged several critical manuals and automated software testing projects, which gave me a holistic view of the work front. I even got the opportunity to lead several projects for which I even got certificates. In this role, I can help to get better product development along with the experience and also, I will be able to learn those different techniques which are currently implemented here“.

The difference between these two answers is that the first one looks more sycophancy and the other one is a combination of 65% – Product information and 35% – Solution.

Results and solutions are what counts most in our talent-based society. But without the product information, how can a regular person find the solution?

Spending almost 10 years in the HR industry; I’ve seen that recruiters scan applicant profiles in about three seconds before shortlisting them for an initial interaction. If they get the fundamental details they need from the candidate, they set up an HR interview.
